I’ll be the first to say that science isn’t everything. It’s my personal belief that we’re entirely too relient on empirical evidence to make decisions that should be obvious. Still, this article exposes the fact that barefoot running’s proponents have no more basis for advising running without shoes as the other side of the argument has for running with them. In the end, it’s my opinion that variety and diversity always win out. Run in as many different environments with as many variations in equipment as you feel comfortable. That will teach your body to keep adapting. But be sure you never do something stupid like running 10+ miles barefoot or with brand new shoes without having built up to it before.
