This article is all about finding what will work for you. Triathletes often get sucked into the Pierce pattern: track run, tempo run, long run. But will that be the optimal pattern for every runner? Or course not. Now it makes sense as far as scheduling, since you’ve got to work in cycling and swimming along with run training. But it may be worth experimenting with some other methods (Yasso 800s for tri training? Inconceivable!) to see if they provide better results. And if you can fit 5 runs into your training week, then why not?
